Abstract
Depression and suicidal ideation are significant problems among college students due to a combination of academic, social, economic and mental health factors. Developing a system of actions to prevent depression and suicidal ideation involves addressing both primary prevention (before problems manifest themselves) and secondary prevention (early interventions). The objective of the project focuses on analyzing the presence of depression and suicidal behaviors in students of the University of Sonora, Caborca campus. For this purpose, a quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional study with descriptive scope was carried out. Preliminary results show that 45.4% of students present some level of depression, 14.5% score medium risk for suicidal behaviors, while 1.2% reflect a high risk. Therefore, the relevance of Social Service projects focused on preventing these situations is recognized.
